Generally, no. However proper maintenance is key! We can give you guidance during your service regarding proper care and maintenance procedures as well as recommend products that will keep your extensions looking lush and healthy for as long as possible.
This depends on the method of application and the quality of hair applied. We only offer premium grade extensions, however we cannot account for improper maintenance or choices made outside of our salon (skydiving, motorcycles, BBQs etc). Generally with proper upkeep and maintenance our salon grade hair will last for many months and reapplications.
Our salon offers the application of clip-in, I-tip, tape weft, fusion, and beaded weave depending on the desired outcome. We can consult with you to find the right product to suit your lifestyle.
This can depend on desired fullness, length, and type of extension. Clip-ins are a single cost, whereas semi permanent extensions typically require additional salon service for application. Book a consultation to discuss potential costs.
We only source our hair from Bohyme who have stated that their hair is ethically sourced, voluntarily donated and fairly compensated for.
Hair extension application generally takes around 1.5-2.5 hours for a new application and 1-1.5 hours for maintenance appointments. Of course, this is dependent on proper upkeep and regular maintenance every 4-6 weeks.
Your best option is to book an appointment to visit us in person, we carry a large selection of wigs, toppers, ponytails, bangs, and hairpieces in store. However finding the right one may require colour matching or side by side comparison between pieces. We can start by finding the right piece, and then order in the colour to match your natural hair.
Brushing
When it comes time to brush your hair, we recommend using a paddle brush or wide tooth comb. This will prevent tangling and yanking the hair from the wefts. Brush in sections to make sure your hair is brushed all the way up to the attachment area. Do not snag the beads/wefts/bonds which can cause damage. Failure to section and brush out thoroughly can lead to matting near the root. Brush hair gently to avoid snapping the ends, which can cause the hair to shed prematurely from the beads/wefts/bonds. Light shedding is normal.
Washing
Wash hair every 2 to 3 days or as necessary. The longer you can go between washes the longer your hair will last due to the detergent chemicals in shampoo. We recommend using natural shampoos or paraben-free, and sulfate free products. Look for chemical names such as "methylparaben, propylparaben, any -paraben" ingredients. These chemicals are synonymous with preservatives, they tend to dry out your hair. While washing, do not scratch your hair as this causes friction with the hair and scalp.
Drying
Extensions look best with a little heat styling, and drying completely at the root zone helps keep your extensions smelling fresh. Your extensions will react to heat just like your own natural hair. You may use all the common tools such as flat irons, curling irons, and blow dryers, but always apply a heat protectant before styling. Keep hot tools away from direct contact with the bead/tape/bond areas, and temperature should be set to 280 to 350 degrees max. If your tools don't have a specified heat setting, stick to LOW to avoid excessive heat damage. NEVER sleep with wet hair, if you're in a hurry spend at least a few minutes near the scalp and fluff dry, then braid your hair if your ends are damp. Sleeping with wet hair, especially in a messy bun will quickly lead to matted hair and tangling.
General Maintenance
We do not recommend the use of any dye, toner, bleach, perm, keratin, or straightening solutions, which can damage hair. Keep hair pulled back in a low ponytail during sports and water activities. While we don't recommend using hair extensions in sea water or swimming pools, if you do participate, it is important to thoroughly wash your hair to clean the salt water or chlorine from your hair. After getting out of the water spray leave-in conditioner, brush hair out thoroughly and allow hair to air dry.
When sleeping, a satin pillow case will help prevent tangling, leave your hair smoother and your complexion softer. Prior to bed, we recommend that you braid your hair into one loose large braid and wear a satin/silk scarf or bonnet to prevent the hair getting caught on the fabric. This will keep your hair in the best condition as well as prevent morning frizz. To keep your bouncy waves for the following morning, you can style with a variety of curling rods prior to going to bed. Never sleep with wet hair and never let it dry without brushing.
